Backwards compatibility in HxMap 5.0

HxMap 5.0 can be made compatible with existing processed sessions, blocks, triangulation projects, HxMap projects, and 3D Editor projects created using HxMap 4.0 and newer versions.

HxMap datasets contain copies of sensor calibrations. Existing datasets which are processed in HxMap 5.0 will be updated to have a system calibration. Once updated, they are no longer compatible with HxMap versions less than 5.0.

Before you can load existing data, you must add the system calibration(s) used as input to the hexsystemgenerator tool into the HxMap 5.0 calibration repository.

Required special handling for backwards compatibility is detailed in the table below.

Dataset

Notes

Existing data created HxMap older than 4.0

  • Not directly supported in HxMap 5.0

  • Complete processing step in HxMap 4.0 - 4.8.x

  • Open dataset in HxMap 5.0 after processing in HxMap 4.0 - 4.8.x

Processed Session HxMap 4.0 to 4.8.x

  • Update georeference cannot be run on a session created with HxMap 4.0 to 4.8.x. Use HxMap 4.x to update georeference first or re-ingest with HxMap 5.0.

  • Lidar calibration session must be processed with HxMap 4.0 to 4.8.x, or re-ingest with HxMap 5.0

Triangulation Project

  • Blocks from HxMap 4.0 - 4.8.x and HxMap 5.0 can be combined in the same HxMap 5.0 Triangulation project.

  • Project calibration for Triangulation project with blocks and sessions created in HxMap 4.0 - 4.8.x must be created in HxMap 4.0 - 4.8.x, then converted to a system calibration with hexsysgenerator.

Older versions of HxMap are not forward compatible with data created in HxMap 5.0. Process any data created with HxMap 5.0 in HxMap 5.0 or newer.
