Leica ALS80
Calibration
With HxMap supporting the Leica ALS80 sensors, the customer calibration routines for this sensor as well as the calibration file format and content changed compared to previous Legacy software. The outcome of this is, that previous calibration files used for Leica CloudPro are no longer valid, instead a user will have to receive a new calibration file from Leica factory support meeting the new standards. This file needs to be organized, so that HxMap can access it (see Customization, Calibration section).
Based on the new calibration file, it is absolutely required, that a user in a very first step executes the HxMap LiDAR Misalignment calibration workflow before running any production processing. By doing this, HxMap will automatically determine required calibration parameter and create an updated calibration file, which is ready to use for production flights. A detailed description of HxMaps LiDAR Misalignment calibration workflow is available here: LiDAR misalignment calibration.
LiDAR Registration
As a result of the sinusoidal scan pattern of the ALS80, there is no forward or backward looking section of the point cloud. Point cloud registration options that might apply to our LiDAR sensors with circular scan pattern are therefore not applicable to the ALS80 sensors.
