Cross-Section Tool
The cross-section tool within HxMap allows a user to slice a point cloud and inspect this section directly in the LiDAR viewer. It is possible to create a single section (e.g. across a rooftop) or a multi-segment section (e.g. along a powerline).
Creating a Cross-Section
To begin with, select all LiDAR takes that you want to use for your cross-section. Once selected, activate the cross-section tool in the toolbar.
With the tool activated, press down the Shift key and place the first and any intermediate vertices using a single click. For the endpoint click and drag to place the point and define the cross-section width. Release the shift key to finish the drawing.
The cross-section point cloud is then automatically loaded into the LiDAR viewer and the view is adjusted to be perpendicular to the first segment.
Navigating a Cross-Section
With a cross-section loaded to the LiDAR viewer the arrow buttons can then be used to move from one segment to the next. Once the end is reached navigation will jump back to the first segment.
While in cross-section mode, rotating of the point cloud is restricted. To unlock full rotation right-click anywhere in the viewer and toggle the cross-section mode off.
